Dear Friends -
We're very pleased to share with you that Stephen King has won the 2016 Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best Short Story. Obits is one of five tales original to King's latest collection THE BAZAAR OF BAD DREAMS:
Michael "Mike" Anderson, a beginning journalist, gets a job at a satirical website called Neon Circus, where he is put in charge of the column “speaking ill of the dead”, which involves writing scathing, snarky obituaries about recently deceased celebrities. When one day his boss refuses to give him a raise, Mike decides to quit and writes a joke obit about her to vent his rage. When she drops dead later that day, and subsequently another "obit target" dies also, Mike begins to realize that his pen is indeed mightier than a sword. And plenty addictive. When a co-worker that knows his secret goads him to use his power to kill a particularly nasty sexual predator, there are unintended consequences that show his power is growing even stronger. And Mike is in a tangle for which there is only one way out.
Obits has also been nominated for a 2016 Hugo Award for Best Novelette, and results will be announced in August.
