HBO announced in March that it will be producing a TV series based on the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties. The series is based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s, which Avery published in 2014 and for which we control world rights!
The series release date is still tentative (currently planned for 2022), though there’s been a ton of press here around the impressive cast (starring Adrian Brody, Sally Field, Jason Clarke, and John C. Reilly among many others) and planned production value. It will be produced by Adam McKay (Succession, The Big Short, Anchorman).
