Victoria Whitworth's editor at Head of Zeus is Rosie de Courcy, who says: "I could read this book three, four, five times and never exhaust its surprises and insights. But it cannot be rushed. Take your time. It will repay you richly."
I can vouch for this. My first reading of it was too hurried, consequently I tied myself in knots with the Greek myths. I re-read it slowly, and allowed myself to be enveloped by Victoria's elegant prose, by her observations of nature and her relatable recollections of the glorious freedom of being abroad in your twenties, by the clever way in which she moves back and forth in time, allowing her to show early on that neither being sectioned at school nor being raped on the road to Corinth has defined her.
